Germany 1988

Hamburg was the venue and my first trip abroad with the Youth Tournament.  What a trip it was. Paul Holloway ran the team and said " we will win this, I've got star players".  We didn't score a goal and came last!  But what a weekend.  Thomas Gravesen was playing for Vejle U12's in that tournament and stood out head and shoulders.  He became my little friend and there is a photo of me and him somewhere out on the pitch at HSV.  Years later in Denmark in the 2000's Thomas happened to be at Vejle and came over and instantly recognised me and we chatted.  he was an International star by then so it was real cool. I introduced him to the boys there and he gave up his time to talk and sign autographs etc. The Youth Tournaments were always special to both me and the club and moments like this made it all worthwhile, not just for the kids but the organisers too.

I would like to dedicate the photos to the Memories of Pat Jones and Bill Whiten.  Like me they loved the Youth Tournaments and were integral in their time x
