When Spurs All Stars Came to Town

Sunday 31st March 1985

A Spurs All Stars came to Capershotts for a Charity Match to raise funds for the Church Restoration Fund, although not many of them were "all stars" on  the day.  Glenn Hoddle made an appearance at the game.  When asked why he wasn't going to play he said "what on a pitch like this!"  He wasn't wrong, in those days it was pretty dire to say the least, but we just got on with it.  Also in the pictures you may see Arsenal legend Pat Rice in a Waltham Abbey shirt.  Pat was a friend of the late Billy Broomfield's and used to train the first team on a Thursday night for a while in the late 70's early 80's.
